Serpent In The Leaves: Friend? Foe?

Take a look at this guy, enjoying some sun after a long Connecticut winter. This image was captured in spring 2008. The snake has not appeared this spring, which may be due to the diligent removal of all the leaves that once piled up near the stream and ravine which are close by.

This location is near a regional high school, ball fields and a plethora of human activity. The snake beat a quick retreat to hide under the leaf litter, but was easily missed when walkers passed by on a regular basis.
