Walk. Walk. Think. Walk. Walk Some More

I sure do love to walk and not talk. (Sometimes.) And explore and see new things and re-discover some old favorites. (Almost always.)

The 19th Annual Walktober Celebration is The Last Green Valley, Inc., (TLGV) listing of some 125 walks, paddles and events for October and November. For a brochure or details (everything from history to mushroom hunts and waterways) see http://www.tlgv.org.

A new program, WalkCT, is part of Connecticut Forest & Park Association's mission to "foster Connecticut as a state where sidewalks meet trails, where cities are linked to towns, and no resident is further than 15 minutes away from a great walk."

Their online resource www.walkct.org is a clearinghouse of information on trails and pathways, outdoor events, and healthy living. Check out listings of special events at http://www.ctwoodlands.org/events.

(And if you see me walking out there with a gaggle of dogs, it's how I clear my mind, get calm, stay fit, and perk ideas into stories.)

National Trails Day Weekend Walks

American Hiking Society's signature trail awareness program, National Trails Day (NTD), is Saturday, June 6.

Connecticut Trails Day events happen on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.

More than 130 events offer the opportunity to tour the state's landscape - pick a trail detailed in an online Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA) PDF brochure and hike, walk, paddle, bike or ride your horse. All levels of abilities can find a selection from strolls to mountaintop hikes.

Events range from trail maintenance, orienteering, or letter boxing or gentler walks to examine local flora and habitats.

CFPA serves as American Hiking Society's state coordinator for Trails Day since 1993.

For a printed brochure or other information, call CFPA at (860) 346-2372.
